The deposit is located approximately 20 km to the west of Bontang town, 39 km from the port. Location can be reached from Bontang in about 30 minutes by car through logging road.
Indominco's coal concession spans over three different administrative areas :
East Kutai regency, Kutai Kertanegara Regency, and Bontang Mayoralty.
The mining concession concists of two areas - the West Block and East Block covering a total area of 25,000 ha.
